Dorothy's poem 'September', originally published in Painted, spoken magazine, has been published on the Scottish Poetry Library's website as one of the 20 Best Scottish Poems 2011, chosen this year by Roddy Lumsden.

The Art Tour 2009, including poetry workshop

Dorothy's studio at Catton Lea will be open to the public for two saturdays and six sundays during the Art Tour, from 11am to 5pm. The dates are June the 13th, 14th, 21st and 28th, and July the 5th, 12th, 18th and 19th. For further details about the art tour please go to

Once again this year, we will also be hosting a poetry workshop to complement the open studio. The workshop will be held on the 19th July from 2pm till 5pm, and will be for adults and children. The tutor, Helen Lawrenson, is an award-winning poet and experienced teacher. The results of the workshop will be compiled into a pamphlet, and each participant will receive a copy. The cost will be £5, including all materials and refreshments. If you are interested in taking part in the workshop, please email Dorothy.

Shortlisted for J D Fergusson Arts Award

Dorothy was among the seven artists shortlisted for the 2009 award, administered by the J D Fergusson arts Award Trust.

Solo exhibition at Sofi's Bar, 65 Henderson Street, Leith

Dorothy will be exhibiting some pictures in Sofi's during May (exact dates to be confirmed). This will be a selling exhibition, featuring mostly figure drawings, with some small landscape works.

Poetry workshops at Catton Lea during Art Tour 2008

Following last year's successful debut event, we will once again be offering poetry workshops to complement Dorothy's open studio at Catton Lea during the Art Tour. Experienced tutor and prize-winning poet Helen Lawrenson will help beginners and the more experienced explore ideas and techniques for writing poetry.

The dates and times will be as follows:

  • Saturday 28th June: 2pm-5pm (for adults)
  • Saturday 5th July 2pm-4pm (for children)

Art Tour 2008 in Northumberland — now with pub nearby!

Dorothy's studio at Catton Lea will be open to visitors for six Sundays and one Saturday during June and July. Neighbouring studios will also be open; why not make a day of it, and see several artists at work? After that, you could call in for a pint of Allendale Best Bitter at the Crown at Catton, which will be reopening in May!
